In December 2023, a nature-friendly rental villa opened along the coast of Kusugawa.
There are two villas in total, each equipped with a kitchen and sauna.
After a sauna session, you can relax in the outdoor cold bath while gazing out at the ocean. We recommend using the sauna the morning before you leave.
Breakfast and a BBQ in the evening can be prepared by reservation.

Yakushima's only all-inclusive private hotel.
(*A plan that includes all costs in the travel price.)
All services during your stay, including drinks and alcohol at dinner, rental cars (light cars) exclusively available at Shizuku no Mori, and even lunch while you're relaxing at the hotel, are all included in the travel price.
What's more, check-in is at 9:00 AM and check-out is at 5:00 PM, an incredible time.

Since the entire building is reserved for one group only, you can enjoy the spacious grounds at your leisure.
In addition, the annex has a hearth, so if you stay for two nights or more, you can choose to have dinner by the hearth. (My wife was so excited, she said, "What's that? I want to stay there!" (^_^))

There are two types of baths: indoor and outdoor (Goemon bath). You can soothe your tired body after a day outdoors, or take a bath in the hotel in the morning. They also accept honeymoons and weddings (forest weddings), so we recommend making your reservation early! (They're hard to get, though^^;)

Cottage Davis -Mugio-

In the summer of 2025, DAVIS will celebrate its 28th anniversary, changing its accommodation style from a B&B to self-catering rental villas! DAVIS's concept is to allow guests to experience the daily life of an island blessed with nature.
And in the summer of 2024, the cafe will reopen. Dishes made with island ingredients are sure to delight the chefs! Small portions of ingredients and seasonings are also available for purchase (please check). Before coming to Yakushima, Mr. and Mrs. Davis ran a famous restaurant in Tokyo. Their delicious food is popular with locals!

Cottage Forest Fairy -Mugio-

"Cottage Forest Fairy," located in Mugi Village, is a cottage with an ocean view run by a lovely couple. The resort-like wooden deck, surrounded by hibiscus, will make you feel like you're on a southern island.

The annex and the separate cottage also feature Goemon-style baths, where you can enjoy the view from the outside. Repeat guests are said to be captivated by these baths (^^). Bathing suits are provided for women, and many other thoughtful touches are in place. By the way, children under elementary school age are not allowed to stay, so if you're looking for a family stay, we recommend waiting until your children are in elementary school (^^♪
*Meals are not provided, but you can dine at "Yakushima Vita Kitchen," located a 30-second walk away. (Reservations required by 5:00 PM the day before!)

SANKARA, meaning "blessing from heaven" in Sanskrit, is a premium hotel offering the bounty of nature, food, and living space.
Located on a hilltop in the Mugio village, the hotel features a pool overlooking the ocean directly in front of the lobby. The spacious guest rooms, including cottage-style suites, are designed with a luxurious atmosphere reminiscent of overseas resorts.
The restaurant, where you can enjoy French cuisine, and the spa, which will rejuvenate both body and mind, are recommended for relieving the fatigue of trekking and daily life! Furthermore, rental cars (reservations required) are available, making island sightseeing easy. This hotel offers a wide range of services.

SNAPPEROCK a tent-friendly lodging -Onoaida-

This spacious inn was built by the owner himself.
It also has glamping facilities, so you can easily experience camping.
There's a hammock on the deck, so you can take a nap while enjoying the forest bathing.
It's also nice to spend your mornings relaxing while listening to the birdsong, drinking coffee, or doing yoga to get your body in shape.
In addition, they also rent out mountain climbing and marine sports equipment (reservations required), so you can enjoy a variety of Yakushima outdoor activities, which is another reason to stay here! (^^)

Ecolodge Moss Tasha is an inn where you can feel the warmth of wood and a lyre.

The spacious entrance area and BBQ facilities mean you can spend time here without worrying about light rain.
The electricity is solar-powered, and food waste is used as chicken feed and compost. Pets are allowed, depending on their size and type, so please consult with the owner if you would like to bring your pet.
Onohama Onsen is nearby, so we recommend soaking in the hot springs after a day in the mountains, rivers, or sea.

Shikinoyado ~A Cottage with a Great View~

Shikinoyado, a private cottage located on a hilltop in Onoaida, is available for rent.
You can choose a cottage with an open-air bath or a kitchen when booking, so you can choose one that suits your stay. Many guests return.

Some cottages offer stunning views of the ocean and Mt. Mochomu, making them a popular choice.
This inn is also popular with international visitors. Reservations are required for dinner, but you can also order a boxed lunch.
There's a supermarket about 1.5 km away, so you can buy dinner there and eat it on the deck of your cottage.

Samana Hotel Yakushima is located in the Onoaida village, in a prime location with Mount Mochomu in the background and the vast expanse of ocean stretching from the East China Sea to the Pacific Ocean.

Day-trip bathing is also available, and you can relax in the mellow natural hot springs and enjoy cuisine made with an abundance of local ingredients.

The hotel has an elevator, fully accessible rooms, aromatherapy massages, and rooms with natural hot springs, so you might as well spend a relaxing time here.

ottage Views YAKUSHIMA ~Only one group per day -Koshima-

Located in Koshima Ward, directly south of Yakushima, Cottage Views is a unique fan-shaped cottage designed by a Yakushima-based architect. With windows facing the ocean on elevated grounds, each room offers magnificent views of Yakushima. The landscaped garden offers a wonderful location, allowing you to enjoy the subtropical plants and the chirping of resting birds. This private space, the only one on the approximately 3,000-square-meter property, is a special one, secluded from everyday life.
A Finnish-style sauna was built along the river on the property in 2023. Why not enjoy a leisurely outdoor bath at Cottage Views, surrounded by nature?

TIDA Resort Yakushima -Yudomari-

TIDA is a group of four cottages located in the Yudomari district of Yakushima, a place with a mild climate. Apparently, the name means "sun" in Okinawan. Each cottage is two-story and equipped with a kitchen and a Goemon bath. Various plans are available, including bed-only and meals-included options, so you can choose the plan that best suits you and relax. However, since it's in the southern part of the island, transportation isn't particularly convenient, so we recommend renting a car!
The restaurant was renovated in 2023 and is now a wonderful space with a panoramic view of the ocean. The food, prepared by a professional chef, is exquisite, so be sure to give it a try! (*^^*)

Summary

Well, this time, a friend asked me for recommendations on Yakushima's best guesthouses and hotels, so I've compiled the information I've heard from customers and researched myself.

Since Yakushima was registered as a World Heritage Site, the number of guesthouses has been steadily increasing.

There are many more wonderful guesthouses and accommodations on the island that we haven't been able to introduce in this article!

※This is a notice for those planning to travel by bus.

Depending on the time of day, there may only be one train per hour. For a smoother trip, I personally recommend renting a car.

Also, please note that during peak seasons, reservations for not only rental cars but also accommodations and guided tours are often unavailable.
